Contact: David Chapman Professor of Music & Director of Guitar Studies (209) 575-6601 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE – For Immediate Release MJC presents guitarist Jay Kacherski in solo performance (Modesto, CA) –Modesto Junior College’s GuitArtist Series will present guitarist Jay Kacherski in a solo concert on Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the MJC Music Recital Hall on East Campus. Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors (62 and better). Advance tickets are available Tuesday through Friday, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Auditorium Box Office or by calling 575-6776 during these hours. Tickets will also be available 90 minutes prior to the concert at the door of the Music Recital Hall. A native of New York, Kacherski has given solo and ensemble performances throughout the United States and Mexico. Recent performances include concerts at the Festival Internacional de Guitarra del Conservatorio Nacional de Musica, Mexico City; the Ollin Yoliztli Center for the Arts in Mexico City; the Cactus Cafe in Austin, Texas; Tulane University; McNeese State University; the concert artist series at the Museo Mural Diego Rivera in Mexico City; the XI Concurso y Festival de Guitarra de Taxco; and the concert artist series at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C. Kacherski has also been a performer and soloist for the Louisiana Choral Foundation and at the Louisiana Summer Music Festival, and was the runner-up finalist in the Texas A&M International Guitar Competition and Symposium in 2010. In 2007, Kacherski was a member of the guitar faculty at the Escuela Nacional de Música, the music conservatory for the National University of Mexico (the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México, UNAM). In 2008, he returned to Mexico as a Fulbright Scholar researching, performing, and promoting contemporary classical guitar music of Mexico. His guide and teacher for his Fulbright work was the world-renowned Mexican guitarist Juan Carlos Laguna. Kacherski has continued his work in contemporary music by premiering many new solo and chamber music works by Mexican composers in the United States. Kacherski recently completed the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Texas at Austin with one of the premier U.S. guitarists and pedagogues, Professor Adam Holzman. Prior to that, he earned a Master’s Degree in Guitar Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he studied with master guitarist Nicholas Goluses. Kacherski completed his undergraduate studies with Pepe Romero protégé, Mark Switzer and Eddy Lugo at Florida Southern College where he graduated with honors. Kacherski is currently a contributing editor for Soundboard Magazine, the journal of the Guitar Foundation of America and is a visiting lecturer at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. -MJC- The Activities and Communications Committees will be having a joint meeting tomorrow Friday October 11th, 2013 at 12:00pm in the East Campus Student Senate Office.
