The show features drawings, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, installations and photographs. “Many remember their first-time encounter with art through their high school art teachers,” said Richard Serros, MJC professor of art. “This project was inspired by the MJC art students and continues this year’s theme of celebrating MJC’s history and connection to our community. We thought it was important to show how our local teachers have influenced and inspired many of our students here at MJC.” Artists included in the exhibition are Ann Williams-Bailey, Charles Alba, Christine Pugliese, Debra Amarante, Demetrio Cordero, Gabie Layne, Kari Copely, Larry DeTomasi, Liana Scoto, Mark Hammari, Nancy Kern, Omar Salinas, Rebecca Fuentes, Renee Stearns, Ruth Truesdell, Scott Mitchell, Terri Crivelli, Tim Tanis, and Vicky Boese. “Many of the teachers’ artworks were inspired by their personal mentors when they were students themselves,” said Serros. “It is our hope that while you walk through this exhibit you reminisce about who inspired you when you first experienced art.” For more information contact the MJC Art Gallery at 575-6819. -MJC-
